With the summer months approaching, so too, do plans for vacations and more outdoor activities not only for myself but for my fellow creatives. With this in mind, a break from regularly scheduled posting is a must and will be something done annually with ICFTS.
WHEN IS THE BREAK?
ICFTS will be on posting sabbatical for the months of JUNE, JULY, and, AUGUST. We will return to posting articles on MONDAY SEPTEMBER 3, 2018, with fresh new content, and prayerfully new voices and topics to grow us all along our creative adventures.
WHY THE BREAK?
As stated, many Creatives will be off on vacations, spending time outdoors with family, regrouping and connecting with friends. Family and relationships are key to healthy creativity and is encouraged. This break will ensure that you don’t miss a beat here on ICFTS, giving you the time to focus on those closest to you.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE BREAK?
During the break, I will be working on new topics and content for ICFTS, working on my writing, as well as focusing on creative rest as well. THERE WILL STILL BE MOTIVATIONAL POSTINGS ON OUR INSTAGRAM PAGE SO FOLLOW US THERE TOO!
In addition to the break, specific tabs under MY JOURNAL will be removed from the ICFTS platform but will have links that will lead to my AUTHOR SITE. These tabs are ART and FICTION.
My goal in moving these tabs is to make ICFTS more streamlined and focused on helping others to grow in their creativity rather than showcasing my own. After all, ICFTS is my creativity and faith in action.
While Monday’s Muse Writing Prompts will still be created on ICFTS, my results, as well as my other fiction pieces, and any created visual art will be posted on my author site.
Thank you so much for continuing the journey with me and ICFTS and exploring your creativity in the summer sun to come!
Third’s a charm, right? Right! I suppose that is true if this is indeed the third time that I have sat down to write AND finish my blog novel, ASCENSION GRAVEYARD.
Part of me, however, feels like this is the FOURTH time and that I left my third attempt somewhere to die a slow death in 2016…these things happen, I’m cool with that.
I suppose that I would have wallowed in frustration over each unfinished reboot if it weren’t for the fact that other creative happenings weren’t successfully occupying my time. It’s not at all that I have been just trying to fill failed space with projects that would massage my ego, but truly I’ve been working on building up my dreams.
To everything there is a time and a season…” ~Ecclesiastes 3:1
As I announced earlier this year, I have officially launched my Author Site, and I am gearing up to do a ‘Battle of the Books’Monday, February 20th, 2017. The battle is a match between the first two novels that I completed during my summer sessions of NaNoWriMo. More information about that will be coming soon.
Ascension Graveyard is my third attempt at summer NaNo and has been like a very needy child for going on four years! As I’ve said before, I encourage myself about the time it is taking to complete this novel with the knowledge that it took Stephen King forty years or so to properly write Under the Dome. He began in the early 70’s and didn’t have her on the bookshelves until 2009.
Some aspiring writers may cringe at that length of time but here are two encouraging things I want you to take away from this:
Anything worth having is worth the work and wait: Our lives and experiences influence the work that we produce. Stephen King started with an idea, but time and influence gave greater life and vision to the work…which also led to a T.V series…which leads to take away number 2.
To everything there is a time and a season (Ecclesiastes 3:1): Some ideas are born in the moments of today but will only be ready for life years from now. The time in between is all about the preparation. Like a fine wine or cheese or a really great stew, long hours, or in the case of some pieces of fiction, long years are what’s required. (I wrote a faith post about waiting. You can find it here.)
Ascension Graveyard has taken me a long while and many moments of frustration, but I feel like the time to really get from the starting line to the end is upon us. I know that I must ‘kill many of my darlings’ during this third or fourth attempt but I am ready.
As a reminder, chapters will begin going up again starting in March 2017.
This leads me to my change in blog theme. Really, I find changing or finding the ‘right’ theme to be much like mall shopping for clothing. It is exhausting, somewhat disappointing, often times hit-or-miss, but when you need new clothes you just have the bite the bullet and step into the fitting room.
I’ve changed my theme after a year because, for one, I felt like I needed the change AND because of the simple function of having my PAGES visible in the body of the text and NOT somewhere floating around after the adds, share buttons, likes, etc.
This theme has the next pages of my post right there after the final period on the previous page. Easy-peasy. I want this process to not only be a fun and easy adventure for myself but a more user-friendly experience for my readers.
As I’ve said before, my writing can only improve with your constructive criticism. So, read along with me, turn those lovely pages, and leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
Also, don’t forget to stay tuned for the Battle of the Books! Your votes will determine which novel will be published and promoted first! You can stay connected and on top of updates by following my Author Site.
Hello my friends! Let me start by telling you this random tidbit, I just LOVE Thursdays! They are like my favorite day of the week!
Okay, enough of that. On to business. And what business you might be wondering. Well the business of IDEAS, and progressive movement.
I have been blessedly overtaken by a slew of creative ideas and organization which gives me a better view and grasp for the future I aim to take hold of.
For a while I felt as if I was trudging through muddy thoughts and false starts but now the light of creative direction is shining brightly, praise Yeshua Jesus!
The ideas are in 4 areas: Blog, Books, Blog Novel, Business
First item of said business: the BLOG.
Blog: Since I changed my blog theme a few months back to Libretto, I feel as if my blog thoughts have become more cohesive. Its like this theme has somehow taken my jumbled ideas and put them into a type of order.
I am grateful for that.
Before, I felt as if (with the blog, Blog novel and other things) I was just throwing thoughts out randomly and hoping that something would stick.
But Libretto has this snazzy way of gently separating things, and with that comes this feeling of separate and orderly thoughts. That, and the fact that since this past July I have shed a TON of distraction and excess baggage from my life that has freed up a whole lot of clear thinking space. Things are beginning to make sense…again.
So what are my ideas for the Blog:
Regular Blogging Schedule & Topics: Truth be told, I have already begun to blog on a regular schedule but I plan to add a few more topics to my sharing world: Music Interludes, Words of Faith, and WRITING CHALLENGES & PROMPTS!!!!
I am REALLY excited about the writing challenges and prompts! Yes, we have Musing Monday’s, but before Monday was Tuesday and on Tuesday was some really fun and wacky writing prompts that yielded some delightful fruits.
I will begin by REPOSTING some of my older Writing Prompts starting NEXT THURSDAY. But if you’d like to take a sneak peek, you can do so by clicking the link under the FICTION TAB called WRITING PROMPTS.
Add more titles to My Favorite Writes: Don’t get me wrong. I would like for all of my stories to be read, BUT in light of the reality that this is not the case, I am going to continue to highlight those stories I am most in love with. You can find those by clicking HERE.
Creating an Author Page for Published Works (COMING SOON) : My goal has always been to publish my works, and I aim to do so no later than Fall of 2016. The self-titled Author Page will be up February 2016. That blog will be more geared around published works soon to hit the market, future projects and who I am as an author. (I will share more on that in the new year.)
Books: What’s on the Menu
I know that ASCENSION GRAVEYARD has been the only novel of mine (Though still unfinished…we will get to that) that the blog universe has seen, however I have over 125 titles, several have already been started and many have been completed including several rounds of revisions and editing.
With that being the case, its time to allow those stories to shine, even while AG works out its issues.
Revise WARDEN, and NEXUS GATE 4037: THE ANIMAL, for Self-Publication in 2016: I am super excited about these two titles as both were written during my June version of NaNoWriMo. Unlike AG, both were completed in less than 90 days, and both are part of separate series! I will share a few chapters of WARDEN (as that will be the first to be published) here on I Came For The Soup on the debut day of my Author Page! I will be expecting some feedback too folks.
Continue to write other novels that are whispering: I have mentioned that I wanted to challenge myself with writing straight up romance. Well, I have been doing that. Saturday nights are dedicated to my work on an Clean Read Inspirational Romance, titled “Where She Lands.” This story whispers on the weekend and I take the time to listen while I rest from AG, Warden and Nexus Gate.
What’s happening with Ascension Graveyard, your Blog Novel?
Don’t think AG has been neglected even though no new chapters have been shared in a loooonnnggg while. I am still ripping it apart in order to piece it back together.
One of the biggest revelations I had to come to was accepting that although I will digitally self-publish this book in the future, I have no idea how near that future is. AG, like every story, has its own character and flow, length and detail. This story is more “involved” than I had been allowing it to be. It may end up being long, or far shorter than I imagine. But in order for it to be either I must weed out the noise that is holding it back. Which is what I am currently doing.
What I can guarantee is that the finished product, plot and all, will be completely different even from what is currently posted. Such is the world of revisions and rewrites.
What’s the Business:
I have already given you a dim look into the world of Shizen Brook: Art Prints and Fashion Accessories, but much more is on the horizon. Learning to take my time is key. The itch to rush ahead and try to produce certain products NOW can be tough, but in order for anything to stand and stand long, it must have deep roots.
I intend to make Shizen Brook grow and grow deep. My vision grows clearer day by day. Products are being designed and my Advertising Degree is being but to good use.
I know that I am holding gold I just need to purify it, if you will.
Keep to production schedule: After the Holidays have gone, I introduce my late Winter and Early Spring line of jewelry
Create a blog to share my progress:Although I don’t mind it at all sharing what I am doing here, I think with the direction I am headed with this company, it is best to give it its own platform.
So those are my ideas in a nutshell. Thanks for stopping by!
…And all is right with the world…okay maybe not the world, but my blog novel, Ascension Graveyard happens to be doing really well, and THAT makes my soul sing!
After a year of hard work, 130k plus words (almost half of which will be discarded) I am finally, and I mean FINALLY at a good place.
Almost three weeks ago, I made the hard decision to go back to the beginning and start doing the Second Draft/Revisions, even before writing the book in its entirety. It was a very difficult choice for me to make as I don’t like starting over.
Anyhow…wait a minute, I am noticing a pattern that has nothing to do with this post and that is the first word of each new paragraph of this post, begins with the letter “A.”
Anyhow (SEE?!) I digress.
SO HOW ARE THINGS GOING WITH THE STARTING OVER?Things are going brilliantly! A.D Everard the amazing blogger and author of www.bloodstonescifi.com, took the time to read through all 44 chapters and prologue that I have currently (soon to remove) on the blog.
Her read through and feedback really has helped me see my mistakes in the plot.
The great thing about her feedback was that she not only reinforced the concerns for specific changes that I felt needed to take place in order to make the novel stronger, but she made me fall in love with my work in a way I had not formally loved it.
So thank you A. D Everard, and please, visit her blog and take a look at her novels the Khekarian Series.
WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON? With all this new found love with the novel, new characters began to pop out of the woodwork, making what was a good plot into a potentially great plot. There is now better cohesion, more conflict and more drive.
I think you will be pleased with these changes.
ANYTHING ELSE?Yes, actually. I plan to trim the drop menu for Ascension Graveyard in the main menu. BUT what I will do is attempt to create a single page or Table of Contents, that will allow you the same level of ease in accessing each new chapter as they are reloaded onto the blog.
ANY REQUEST? YES! Would you all be little darlings and LEAVE FEEDBACK as you read the novel? PLEASE? Feedback helps a great deal. It its priceless! So, even if its just a few short words like, “That was confusing.” Or “Maybe you should consider…” I would be ever grateful.
So that is what’s happening over here. I hope to have the new Table of Contents up Today or Tomorrow, depending on how editing and revisions go this afternoon.
So I know it has been a while since I last posted a chapter to Ascension Graveyard. Okay its been like a week, but that seems like forever sometimes. Anyhow I just wanted to let all of you who have been reading along know that even though chapters have not been posted lately, I have still been working on the story.
WHAT IS THE HOLD UP?
Fast forward writing has been the hold up. For those of you who do not, nor have attempted to write a novel, a common thread of creativity with such a craft is that at times the story will not tell itself in order. There are other novels that I have written whereas the 16th chapter told itself and I was still only breaking through the opening of the 4th.
What do you do in these moments? You write what is there and then you bridge the gap once the thought or chapter has been completed. Its for this reason that I liken storytelling to quilting. You have all these lovely patches that you eventually have to bring together with a sense of cohesion somehow.
No, I do not actually quilt, but I admire the craft and have a desire to do so in the future. Tis on my “things to do before going to glory” list. Seriously, I bought a Martha Stewart Crafts book a few years back and it made me want to get married and have children so that I could sew my family things.
ANYHOW! The story is flowing, eventually it will right itself in a way that I will be able to share it. Also looking ahead and seeing the nipping and tucking that I shall do to improve AG’s flow is also in the works. I try not to work too far ahead but at times one cannot help themselves.
Let the muse play her music I say.
Why yes! So glad you asked. As I said with my recently posted results from a free flow write exercise, I have been coming up with several new novel ideas. When I say several, I mean I have, within the last week or so been hit with maybe four. That may not sound like much but, trust me it is.
Anyhow that is the way of things at present. I will do my best to get more to you soon.
