The Promise of Pursuit: Pursuit of Passion pt 5

“For the Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He knows your trudging through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.” ~ DEUT. 2:7 Over the past month, we have journeyed through the concept and truths of our pursuits of passion. By the Grace of God, we have learned where our passions come from, what it means to pursue, and with what posture we need to pursue with Christ always at the center and head of it all. But even with all of this, there will still be times in our journey that we face discouragement and even find ourselves questioning if our efforts and even our pursuit was worth it. There are several reasons why we may ever get to these places; maybe our pursuit seems fruitless after an extended time. Maybe there was once life but now it seems the fruits of our labors have shriveled up into laughable dried stumps of lost potential. Maybe we question if we were ever really pursuing …

Points of Pursuit: Pursuit of Passion pt 4

“Commit your deeds to the Lord, and your plans shall succeed.” ~PROVERBS 16:3 In this life, no matter where you currently stand, there will come a time in your journey that you will desire to have more love, better relationships, profession, more money to pour into your passions, and success in balancing all of them. In our youth, we have the awkward moments of sampling what love and relationship with the opposite sex look like. We are giving crash courses in high school and undergrad or university, where we are expected to be good managers of our time and the ‘fruits’ of labors we are expected to produce. In and through it all, even into early adulthood, middle-aged life and beyond, the pursuit of success is the driving force toward our passion. During the season of ‘love,’ the rise for the pursuit of a romantic relationship and the refreshing tingle of endorphins is hard to miss. Having this desire is not a sin, but how we choose to meet these needs (inherent as they are …

The Impossible Romance: From Novels to Now Through Christ’s Example

*Revised from March 3, 2016 Women, as well as some men, love the idea of an impossible romance; where the heroine, despite the circumstances, is still found to be worth winning, worth pursuing, worth redeeming by her unforeseen love, until against all odds he wins her heart and heals its brokenness. The recipe for most romance novels tends to stay upon that common thread. Women want to read about redemptive love. I believe this is why women are more open to accepting the grace, truth, and love of Christ. He comes as the Hero of the ultimate, impossible, love story, sacrificing Himself for a bride who doesn’t know how to love Him in return, doesn’t see her own brokenness, or His value upon first glance. But when she, the bride, the heroine, does come to herself and allows His redemptive love, she finds her home in His heart where she thrives magnificently. Romance novels offer this balm to the unspoken ache that all woman carry. The bible says that we are not meant to be alone, that He …

The Wisdom of Pursuit: Pursuit of Passion Pt 3

*Revised from the “Postures” Series from July 2016 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.” ~JAMES 1:5-6 Our passions are as vast as the sand of the sea. Even so, the way in which we are to pursue those passions are equally as vast and require wisdom, the wisdom of God if we are truly to hit our marks and be successful in a way that not only pleases God but allows us to be blessed and be a blessing to others. The Word of God tells us in that if any of us lack wisdom we should as God who gives unto us abundantly. To approach and pray to Savior in Faith and Wisdom is to approach Him with focused confidence in Who He is and who we are in Him as …

The Posture of Pursuit: Pt 2 of Pursuit of Passion

Faith. Fear. Worry. Wisdom. All four cups are set before us to drink from as we traverse our pathway of pursuit of passion, but which cups are we choosing to drink from? The question seems simple enough and the answer even simpler. What is our posture in prayer as we pursue our passion? If prayer, seeking the wisdom of God, is not our foundation we are already off to a bad start. Christ Himself blessed us with the truth that apart from Him we could do nothing, and sharing with Him in all things is done through prayers of faith (JOHN 15:5). Prayer. It is more than just a religious act of acknowledging a Power greater than yourself. For the Redeemed, prayer is, or rather should be, an authentic conversation with our Beloved Father, Friend, and Savior, Christ Jesus. The Word ensures us that “…The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (JAMES 5:16) We who have accepted the free gift of salvation through the finished work of Christ Jesus ARE now the righteousness of God …

Don’t Give Up in Your Pursuit by Pastor Robert House III

The reality of living in a fallen world is that many times you may feel stuck, unfilled, hopeless, confused and even bitter. You put your full effort into making a change, pursuing something better in your life, fighting an addiction, changing your circle of friends or even connecting with family and then nothing changes. You have been lead to build a dream, you pray over your family and your marriage and nothing changes. Have you ever been passionately pursuing the will of God because you know what He told you and still find yourself empty? What do you do when nothing changes and yet everything changes. Where do you go when you feel like your prayers aren’t being heard. Your body aches, your heart cries, you know that you stepped into the miry clay and now trying to get out of it. You went right when God told you to go left and now your trying to make a U-turn. Pursuit, passion, change and finding a better balance to the brokenness of your life. In …

A Heart at Peace: Pt 1 of Pursuit of Passion

“The life of the body is a heart at peace, but envy rots the bones.”~PROVERBS 17:22 WMB Passion is a gift, be it passion for creative arts, passion for relationships, passion in your walk with Christ. The beauty of passion is that it is unique in design even if it bares similarities in concept with the passion of others. Just as there are an innumerous amount of snowflakes, each one bares a singular pattern unique in its form in comparison to others, so too is the design of your God-given passion and the drive and direction with which you pursue it. Unfortunately, many of us find our feet tangled in the trap of the enemy and the lies that come along in the game of comparison. We wonder if our process and pursuit should be like that of others. We question if the reason why our fruit is taking so long to manifest is because we are not following the plan and path of others. We judge, not only our dream but the plan with …

Partnering with God’s Heart for You by Bri Lassiter

I have found while walking with Jesus that the things I am most passionate about in my life are often a direct reflection of the things He is most passionate about for me. Prayer has always been one of those things I just need to do like I need to breathe, and although there have been many seasons where I couldn’t hear the Lord’s voice, I persisted in those times with the comfort that whether or not I hear Him at that moment,He can always hear me. Many times over the years I’ve felt like my prayers never made a difference and there have been times I’ve been so frustrated I’ve tried to quit praying altogether. But I’ve found that The Lord is relentless in His determination for me to walk in joy and success in the gifts He’s given me. And instead of letting me quit, He’s set about to teach me that instead of trying to hammer a square peg in a round hole with my prayers, I need to learn how to …

Steps & Leaps in Pursuit of Passion

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” ~PROVERBS 3:5-6 No matter how big or small the step you take toward accomplishing your dream, celebrate the courage that you displayed in the step that you took and the ones that are sure to follow. Each stone you put forth is one more to add to the foundation of your future. Be grateful for your progress and keep moving forward! Our Faith is what brings our Heavenly Father pleasure! Faith in Him is the greatest expression of gratitude and devotion, especially as we pursue the passion that He has seeded in our hearts.  Faith is not only defined by giant leaps but is often reflected in the tiny steps.  Keep stepping forward, confident that He will shine a light on your path as you seek His face and way toward your goal.  ~Poeima, Poetry in Motion

Pursuit of Passion: Series Intro

With the start of every new year, with all the hope and uncertainty ahead of us, there are two themes that we can count on hearing about or seeing in the lives of others and that is pursuit and passion, or the pursuit of passion. From the greatest to the least of us, we all hear the proverbial ‘starting bell’ of a new year and mentally reset our minds with the belief that the slate is washed clean and we are beginning from zero, the old is past and the new is just ahead of us. Perhaps you have set your heart to leave the single life behind in pursuit of a new relationship and romantic passion. Maybe you just want to a new you and are setting your mind in that direction with a passionate pursuit of healthier living. No matter what your ‘new’ may be in actuality, the commonality …
