Creative Winters: Waiting for the Fruits of Spring

“Winter is the silent intermission for glorious spring! There is life beyond our frozen earth waiting to break forth in its season.” ~CANDICE COATES There are these moments that come in our creative journey whereas it seems that nothing is happening. We feel as if we’ve hit a wall in our writing, our art, our everything. But just like in nature, just like with God who took a day off from his work of creation, we too have our creative winters. When your creativity slips into silence, allow it a moment of rest. Though it may seem as creative winter in your world, be confident that spring is just around the bend. Ebbs are always followed by flows. As King Solomon so eloquently put it in Ecclesiastes 3:1,(1-8), “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” If the Lord has promised you a destination, trust that He will keep His word to you. I have found that some of my best creative seasons came after a time of rest. This …

To Walk on the Wind: Faith for Creatives

Uitwaaien (out-vwy-ehn) “To take a break to clear one’s head; lit. “To walk on the wind.” ~The Dictionary Uitwaaien is such an amazing word, not just for the beautiful meaning, but also for its incredibly difficult but fun pronunciation! With each moment of ministry that He completed in the form of man, He took the time to draw away and to breathe in the refreshing breath of God the Father. In Matthew 14:22-33, Christ Jesus …

Friends, it is a new season, my favorite season! Autumn or Fall. For some, this is a time of seeming woe. A time when life fades and all things slip into darkness. But just like when we have spent our time working hard and producing a job-well-done, at the end of it, we desire a well-deserved rest with (hopefully) the anticipation for something even greater in the day or days to come. Autumn is a season of rest. It is the pause in the moment, the beginning of an intermission right before the symphony of life begins again. The current of Fall comes down up Summer with the vibrancy of fire and ice. Newness is just ahead, …
