The Beauty of Blinders: Taking Sight of Your Own Creativity

BLINDERS: something that obscures vision: something that prevents clear vision or understanding eye covers for horse: a pair of flaps attached to a horse’s bridle, one beside each eye, to keep the horse looking straight ahead.Microsoft® Encarta® Reference Library 2003. © 1993-2002 Microsoft Corporation. Being creative after all is about giving vision and making the obscure more understandable. But as creative people, there are times where blinders are a necessary tool that we should employ within our journeys, and actually, blinders become a great blessing when we employ them in our faith journeys as well. “True creativity is not about competition it is about the newness of authenticity. Authentic creativity speaks not only for the artist, but to the artist as well as the audience, and comes from a place within.” Blinders that cover our eyes from distractions, things that keep us from our vision, and looking ahead, staying on the path, are very beautiful and worthwhile. …

Get Out Of The Box!: A Challenge To Be Creative

“You’ll never think outside the box if you are constantly looking inside someone else’s…Sometimes the most incredible imagination sparks from nothing.” ~CANDICE COATES We are all inspired by something or someone. This is the chain of life and it is a good thing. As King Solomon put it, “There is nothing new under the sun.” (ECCLESIASTES 1:9) The beauty of life is that with each passing of generation to generation, what was once ‘usual’ to the person stepping into eternity, becomes something ‘unique’ for the person who experiences it for the first time. Our Lord Jesus spoke and created from nothing (HEBREWS 11:3) and in His goodness, He gave us the DNA to do the same. Creativity takes chances. Imagination …

Stay out of the shadows: A Quote…Inspired by the Late Whitney Houston

“I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadow…because its much more fulfilling to be my original self AND I get far more vitamin D that way, which we all know is a good thing.” Whitney Houston was on to something here besides going for the record gold when she sang the song, “The Greatest Love of All,” written by Linda Creed and Michael Masser. Looking to our heroes and sheroes for inspiration is part of being human. Its what gives us the fuel to press towards a higher mark and prize, but hiding in the dark, cold, musty shadow of someone else, well…that’s just a waste. Yes we are to learn from others, but to only achieve the same level of artistic greatness (or any kind of achievement) as the person before you is not to do the world a favor but it is to reinvent the wheel. It’s just plain wrong. To stay in the shadows is to get lost in the shuffle of mediocrity. Originality is a precious gift from Yeshua/Jesus/God. …
