He is Known in Praise: Lifting Up the Name of Jesus

“In Judah God is known; His name is great in Israel. 2 In Salem also is His tabernacle, And His dwelling place in Zion. 3 There He broke the arrows of the bow, The shield and sword of battle. Selah” ~PSALM 76:1-3 When I read Psalm 76:1-3 recently, the Lord immediately led me to look up what He was saying via the translations of each of the places mentioned in verses. What I discovered by doing the word study was that our God is revealed and known in praise! We already know that He makes our praise His dwelling place (PS. 22:3), and thusly in His presence is fullness of joy and pleasures evermore (PS. 16:11). All of this is obviously beautiful, but it only comes as a direct response of closeness and closeness comes by communication, communication is a fruit of praise. KNOWING HIM IN PRAISE Here is the breakdown of the verses using the meanings of each location’s name and outlining the significance of each. v.1a In Judah God is known: God has …

Declaring All the Reasons You Can

It is easy and practically the given norm of humanity to find all the reasons why we ‘can’t’ and shouldn’t do a thing that has been burning in our hearts to do. We can come up with the typical lists of why’s that range from financial restrictions, age, gender, and the all too famous stumbling block, time. We see and feel the burn for more, given to us by Christ Himself, swirling within us, and yet, like Moses we begin to tell the God of Creation who has called us to ‘speak’ that our mouths don’t work, as if when He called us and put that fiery seed to go forth in us, He didn’t know the so-called odds against us. In fact, it is because of those very odds that the Lord has called us to go forth and to do things that are seemingly impossible, things that take us out of our comfort zones, things that the word and statistics say we are disqualified to even pursue. “But God chose the foolish things …

Into Rich Fulfillment: The Journey of Change

“…We went through fire and through water; But You brought us out to rich fulfillment.” ~PSALM 66:12b Trials are something that the Lord in His grace and tender mercies toward us, His beloved children, assured us we would all endure. He tells us this truth many times over in His Word, not only to assure as that we will face the process, but to encourage us that we will make it through each and every one of them and that if we hold on to Him in faith, we will come out into richness. But why the trials? Let’s be honest, none of us looks forward to struggle or resistance. The very thought of doing so goes against our human nature. But there is beauty and benefit within the struggle. Just like when one decides to pursue a healthier lifestyle, that transition is often a struggle, to say the least. Changing one’s diet, making a point to walk more, to take the stairs instead of the elevator, to go to the gym and actually lift …

Thanksgiving in Every Step

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord And He delights in his way.” ~PSALM 37:23 The beauty of living our lives to the glory of Christ is that we can rest in the full assurance that no matter where our foot may fall, whether circumstances seem good, bad, or neutral, that our steps are ordered by God our Father. Now don’t misunderstand. This doesn’t mean that we, in our ‘good intentions’ can’t get ourselves off track and go places God never ordained or intended, because the truth is that we all have. What it means is that, if we find that we have made a bad step, the Lord is not only able but faithful to work that step to our good (ROMANS 8:28). He is able to turn what our own misguided direction wrought into something good. Let us give thanks for that! Let us give thanks that because we are now His righteousness through faith (II COR. 5:21, we are assured of always gaining victory. Let us give thanks that our repentance, turning …

Jesus’ Intent For Us All: Faith for Creatives

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” ~JEREMIAH 29:11 Things happen in life that are often times out of our control and more times than not outside of the will of God, even though He may allow them to happen. The goodness that we are blessed to drink and rest in, comes from the immutable truth that God is not surprised by the happenings of life, nor is He unable to take any circumstance and recycle it for our good (ISAIAH 61:3). Blessedly, that is exactly what He desires to do! Even from the very fall of man in the Garden of Eden, the Lord had already set up a plan for us all for our good, out of His abundant grace! Luke 2:14 encourages us that He delights in giving and pouring out His goodwill upon us all. “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Be encouraged and rest in these truths …

Preparing for Overflow: Faith for Creatives

“”But now bring me (Elisha) a musician.” Then it happened, when the musician played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him.  And he said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Make this valley full of ditches.’ For thus says the Lord: ‘You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.’ And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord; He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand … Now it happened in the morning, when the grain offering was offered, that suddenly water came by way of Edom, and the land was filled with water.” ~II KINGS 3:15-18, 20 The start of this chapter of II Kings 3, we find the Kings of Israel, Judah, and Edom preparing to go to battle against the King of Moab. But on their way to war, they find themselves in the midst of the desert, with masses of men and animals and not a drop of water to drink. WORSHIP IS OUR FIRST WEAPON Seeking the wisdom of the Prophet …
