Out to Abundance: Faith for Creatives

Revised from May 4, 2018 “…we went through fire and water, but you brought us out to abundance.” ~PSALM 66:12 Another translation of this portion of scripture says, “We went through the fire and through the water, but You brought us out to rich fulfillment.” Here is what we as Creatives and People of Faith have to take note of: THERE IS ‘PROCESS’ BEFORE ‘POSSESSION’. Before we are able to take hold of and step into the new level that God has for us, we must be prepared for it. Who we are before the process is not who we will be on the other side of it when we take possession of what the Lord has promised and called us to. Fire. Consider the occurrences of forest fires, not the ones that are caused by human negligence, but those that take place as a part of the circle of creation. These fires are natural. They may cause great devastation, but, they bring greater enrichment to the ecosystem. Water. Water, rain, are necessary for the nutrients to be able …

Cari Burns: Creative in Action

Interview by Bri Lassiter I am so happy to introduce this month’s Creative In Action, Cari Burns! I personally have been blessed by Cari’s ministry and as I read her story, I’m reminded of the truth that when you obey, you will always be blessed. Caris story, (like all of ours,) is not done yet. And while I’m excited we get to read about the chapter she is in, I am even more excited that as she is prophesying with her life of the goodness and favor of the Lord and proving that when you step out in faith you will be blessed and multiplied greatly. Like many of us who have sown for a long time, she is about to step out into yet more of the abundance that God designed for her ministry. And just like Cari, as we work with the Lord in the plans He has for our future, He takes us to an end that is better than anything we could imagine for ourselves as He dumps on us the …

Watch It!: You Are What You Eat pt 3

“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” ~ MATTHEW 26:41 Eating is more than just the substance that we take in with our mouths. In all actuality, if you haven’t learned this truth yet, we eat with all of our senses. The first thing that we are drawn by is our sense of smell. Something lets us know, or leads us to believe that is good by the way it smells. It lures us, and like a fish on a hook, we follow the draw until our eyes take hold of what tempted us. At this point, we are left with a decision, to consume or not to consume. The first thought that comes to my mind is that of State Fair food or Carnival food. Let’s all be honest, there really is nothing good about all that deep fried greasy goodness, but our noses tell us otherwise and our eyes, more often than not come in agreement with the lie…heartburn and other ailments later, we are …

Regina Hernandez: Creative in Action

It is with great pleasure, that I ( Candice) get to present to you Regina Hernandez, one of ICFTS’ team members, sisters in Christ, and fellow creative!  Be blessed by her testimony and the view of her creative path laid out for her by Christ. By Regina Hernandez Starting at a very young age, people around me recognized how creative I was. I remember adults often being impressed with the lens in which I could see certain circumstances or perceive different ideas. I was encouraged to explore my artistic side from an early age, being gifted art-sets and watercolor palettes or just simply doing crafts with my mom. I had an encounter when I was about six or seven years old where someone asked me “What do you want to be when you grow up?” as most adults typically ask little ones. I remember thinking for a bit and going through the usual list in my head “Teacher? No… Police officer? Not really….” And while all of them are noble in their own right and …

Believe: Persevere in the Process

Believe: Believe what has been said to you by His Spirit From the time Caleb and Joshua spy out the Promised Land to the very moment that they are actually being led by the Lord to inherit it, 45 years will have passed. Throughout those years the entire generation of men of war who were meant to take the land for their posterity has died in the wilderness as aimless wanderers, having gotten close to what the Lord promised but never taking hold of it. Still, in the midst of the graves, the seemingly endless cycles, and monumental odds that could easily lead into doubt, Joshua makes his home in the Lord’s presence (EXODUS 33:11) while Caleb holds the promise of his mountain close to his heart. BELIEVE THE WORD OF PROMISE  The Word of Promise, The Word that is our sword of salvation against the enemy is our Rhema Word. “The definition for Rhema refers to a spoken word that is active or activated for your personal situation, a word that comes to life for you …

Bri Lassiter: Creative in Action

Bri Lassiter is part of the ICFTS Team. She is a Faithful friend, Believer in Christ, wife and mother. Here is her view of creativity as she takes her action steps to pursue the purpose Christ has placed upon her heart. I used to define creativity as “arts and crafts” and I completely excluded myself from all connection to the arts because I didn’t fit in my own narrow definition of it. Recently I began asking God what His dreams are for me, and he reminded me of a childhood love I’ve had for lettering and calligraphy. I had planned on going to an art school many years ago so I could pursue that love but I had been deeply discouraged by others in my life at the time who believed I could not and should not pursue that dream. I was completely brokenhearted about it and that’s when I started putting up walls by saying that I’m not creative and began defining creativity as “arts and crafts ” and believing it’s “not my thing.” …

Breathe: Patiently Pursue the Promise

Breathe: Breathe in the Rhema word of truth daily and let your soul be at peace. “The definition for Rhema refers to a spoken word that is active or activated for your personal situation, a word that comes to life for you by the Spirit.” See Numbers 13-14:38 When we meet Caleb of the Tribe of Judah, he is a man in his forties, recently delivered from the yokes of slavery in Egypt, on fire with faith in the God of Israel, and ready to take hold of what God has promised-the Promised land of Canaan that will be renamed Israel. Caleb along with eleven other men, is commissioned to go and spy out the Promised Land, to bring back a report to the people what it is that they are preparing to walk into. If you are familiar with the story, you know that out of the twelve, Caleb along with Joshua are the only two that returned from the spying mission with even greater faith than before they had seen the land. BREATHE: ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR …

To Walk on the Wind: Faith for Creatives

Uitwaaien (out-vwy-ehn) “To take a break to clear one’s head; lit. “To walk on the wind.” ~The Dictionary Uitwaaien is such an amazing word, not just for the beautiful meaning, but also for its incredibly difficult but fun pronunciation! To take a break in order to clear one’s mind is a foreign concept for many of us. It actually seems counterintuitive to being successful in our creative pursuits. But when we look at scripture, we see the God of Creation not only taking a break from His work during the dawn of time but also during His three years of ministry here on earth as God with Us-Emmanuel. “And when He (Jesus) had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray.” ~ MARK 6:46 NKJV With each moment of creation, the Lord paused to call His work good. With each moment of ministry that He completed in the form of man, He took the time to draw away and to breathe in the refreshing breath of God the Father. In Matthew 14:22-33, Christ Jesus …

Stumbling Through the Process: The Art of Fearless Creativity

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” -Thomas A. Edison Scrolling through Instagram, I happened upon a quote that said something like, “Even when I stumble I am one step closer.” I’m not certain if those are the exact words, but that was the essence of the quote. What moved me most was the audacity of the words, the blatant courage to stand up with mud on your face, blood on your knees, and raw palms, and still say with absolute grit, that I am closer than I was before, even if I had to fall to get here. Creativity is much like that. It is ‘that’! It is taking the risks and continuing on, even when our confidence wavers. It is pressing on and being your own cheerleader when those who once celebrated you on the sidelines have grown quiet. It is believing, even when you are the only one left to believe. You may be the only one that sees the value in the dream within you, but if …

Summer Winds: Micro Fiction

The warmth was a blessed reprieve from the chilly winds. The sun shining heat as if its very rays were that which turned the leaves from vibrant green to royal shades of ochre, amber, and red. Fall had definitely arrived but summer was giving its last good-bye, kissing the atmosphere with crystal blue skies and a warm embrace. It was the last dance until the cycle began anew. Fall had taken the stage but danced with the last season to the tune of “Summer Winds.” THE END *Written October 17, 2016
