The Purpose in the Process: Part 3 of Power in the Process

“Anything good will often require a good amount of time.” ~Candice Coates Scripture: I Samuel 17:24-40 (I encourage you to read I Samuel 17 in entirety.) In I Samuel 17, we find the Children of Israel in the Valley of Elah, stationed there for forty days in fear. Why? Because the champion of the Philistine army, Goliath, has come to defy them. “Send me your best warrior!” He says. “If he kills me, we will be your servants, but if I kill him, you will be our servants.” Standing nine feet tall and likely weighing near a complete ton, it is understandable why the Israelites would see this giant and camp out in fear. Who could match his strength? Who could possibly bring him down? No one has the courage to do so…except one–David, the son of Jesse. Ironically, David was likely no more than seventeen years old and was a trained…shepherd, not a warrior. But he was a master of faith in the God if Israel and the world. David was also a poet and inventor of new musical instruments, instruments …

Do All Out of Love: Faith for Creatives

“Let all that you do be done with love.” ~I CORINTHIANS 16:14 Do everything with, in, and out of love. This is not just about doing to or for others out of the love of your heart, which is a good righteous. This is doing, going forth in action, fully consumed and clothed in Christ’s love for you as you do so. The word tells us that He is love (I JOHN 4:7-9). That We are in Him (I JOHN 4:13). When we know how loved we are, perfectly loved, we are able to reign above all fear, the very fear that seeks to paralyze us and keep us silent. When we are clothed in and in partnership with Christ’s love for us we move in confidence and expectation of His goodness in all things and circumstances. Let us, with love, in love, in partnership with Love Himself, begin all things, all prayer, all action, from the confident and secure place of how loved we are. There is no more secure foundation or armor than this! ~Poiema. Poetry in …

The Rewards of Resting & Waiting

“God never hurries. There are no deadlines against which He must work. Only to know this is to quiet our spirits and relax our nerves.” ~A.W Tozer (PSALM 23) Take a moment and read Psalm 23.  I know that most of us reading this article have been blessed to have already read, time and again, the wisdom and prophetic prayer of King David, the Shepherd after God’s own heart. But have you taken the time to read it in the context of struggle? Have you read it through the perspective of process, or transition? Here is David, a man dedicated to the perfect will, way, and call of God upon His life being bounced from one injustice and battle to another, beginning his prayer and praise to the Lord with these very words, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” You may think, well that’s beautiful, especially when you continue to read the next few verses: “He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me …

Pray for Rain: Faith for Creatives

“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.” ~JAMES 5:17-18 He prayed, and the land was dry. He prayed again and the heavens were opened and the earth saturated. This is the story of Elijah. If you are familiar with the great Prophet, then you know how he stood alone against a multitude and those who served a false god and their queen, Jezebel, armed only with his faith and the authority of the True and Living God. You know that when it was time for him to pass the baton of faith that he was called up to heaven in a chariot of fire and swept away into eternity without ever being touched by death even though at one point in time, death was indeed his prayer. You know then that he was a man of great power and …

Cari Burns: Creative in Action

Interview by Bri Lassiter I am so happy to introduce this month’s Creative In Action, Cari Burns! I personally have been blessed by Cari’s ministry and as I read her story, I’m reminded of the truth that when you obey, you will always be blessed. Caris story, (like all of ours,) is not done yet. And while I’m excited we get to read about the chapter she is in, I am even more excited that as she is prophesying with her life of the goodness and favor of the Lord and proving that when you step out in faith you will be blessed and multiplied greatly. Like many of us who have sown for a long time, she is about to step out into yet more of the abundance that God designed for her ministry. And just like Cari, as we work with the Lord in the plans He has for our future, He takes us to an end that is better than anything we could imagine for ourselves as He dumps on us the …

Blessed Under Pressure: Faith for Creatives

“…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”~PHILIPPIANS 1:6 As I sat, several years ago, and practiced calligraphy with a pen I had never used before, I noticed that when I didn’t apply the right amount of pressure with my hand, the inky lines would break and lose their fluidity. They lacked perfection. I continued to draw more curved lines all in the attempt to make the perfect, curvy, line with thick sections here and thin, fine sections there, repeating the pattern, all without breaks. As I continued to draw the Holy Spirit gave me a revelation. Just like with that pen in my hand, Christ Jesus is working with us in His hands. He is working with us to get us to do greater things that we have never done before. Just like with the pen, He must apply the right amount of pressure at the right time to get our ‘lines’ perfect, fluid, without breaks. The task …

Faith & The Fast Lane: Faith for Creatives

“But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner.  For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.  And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” ~HEBREWS 6:9-12 Sometimes in the pursuit of our passion, the vision that the Lord has set ablaze in our souls, we find ourselves slowing down to a productive pace that does not match the zeal that is burning on the inside of us.  We look around us and see others seemingly tackling goals and gaining momentum with neck-break speed while we putter along. We wonder if our faith is enough.  The answer is yes, yes your faith is enough!  Your journey in pursuit of your creative passion and the calling that the Lord has placed upon your life …

Be Loved: The Passion of Christ’s Pursuit

“I can touch more than the hem of Your Garment. I can touch Your heart.” ~Candice Coates Messiah Yeshua, Jesus Christ, the Mighty Right Hand of God, God Himself, the Creator of all and the Lord of all, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, The Mighty King…made Himself humble just to be near to us. How great the depth of His love, often misunderstood, often misrepresented. But His light is too fierce for darkness to overshadow. His love is too tenacious and open for us all in Spirit, Grace, and Truth to be denied. His passion on the cross is the evidence of His pursuit of you and me. Even in our sins when we were counted as enemies Christ chose to step into the darkness to draw us back to His heart with His cleansing light.  “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” ~ROMANS 5:8 NIV No matter where you may find yourself, be it on the outside of faith looking in, secure …

Talking with Your Mouth Full: You Are What You Eat pt 4

“Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.” ~I PETER 2:1-3 NKJV In a letter of encouragement, the Apostle Peter writes that we, like newborn babes, should desire the pure milk of the word and grow in that. But let’s do a bit of backtracking in the word, recognizing that I Peter as one stream of thought in entirety and not segmented chapters. With that being said, what was Peter’s statement to the Body of Believers prior to chapter two verses one through three? “Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, because, “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the …

To Walk on the Wind: Faith for Creatives

Uitwaaien (out-vwy-ehn) “To take a break to clear one’s head; lit. “To walk on the wind.” ~The Dictionary Uitwaaien is such an amazing word, not just for the beautiful meaning, but also for its incredibly difficult but fun pronunciation! To take a break in order to clear one’s mind is a foreign concept for many of us. It actually seems counterintuitive to being successful in our creative pursuits. But when we look at scripture, we see the God of Creation not only taking a break from His work during the dawn of time but also during His three years of ministry here on earth as God with Us-Emmanuel. “And when He (Jesus) had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray.” ~ MARK 6:46 NKJV With each moment of creation, the Lord paused to call His work good. With each moment of ministry that He completed in the form of man, He took the time to draw away and to breathe in the refreshing breath of God the Father. In Matthew 14:22-33, Christ Jesus …
