Jesus, the Oil of Joy: A Poem by Briana Lassiter

This is a poem about the symbolic oil of Joy that is made from Myrhh and only offers it’s sweet scent once it’s been crushed. Joy on the inside, joy from within. This is joy; the joy you win. Crushed and bruised, this is released, the oil of joy, the oil of peace. The joy You’ve put into me cultivated with care, now is released. It is all you, Jesus my joy. Strength, peace, confirming, fighting, killing, declaring. These are the things that joy enables when crushed beyond belief. This is it! This is the way, this is joy. A heart that is white, a heart that is clean, a heart that is trusting, what is unseen. Friendship and love, never-ending, not losing, This is the oil, pour it over everything *Photo by MI PHAM on Unsplash By Briana Lassiter I’m married to my dearest friend of 8 years and mom to an energetic 6-year-old. My greatest joys come from traveling with my little family, cooking for appreciative recipients, learning herbalism and natural medicine, and every experience I …

In Awe of Him: A Moment of Musing

Today, like many days, the Lord woke me up with a song of worship in my head and heart. The song that He deposited into my heart this morning was “Let Me Trade You,” sung by Mahalia Buchanan. If you’ve not heard the song before, I encourage you to click on the title above and take a listen. But the greatest beauty of the song this morning was the fact that I hadn’t listened to the song in nearly a year, but when I listened to it sparked such amazing joy. Why? The words are sung as if it is Christ Himself singing them, the Precious Lamb of God, the Mighty Lion of Judah, singing unto His creation, calling the lost unto Himself, offering healing, love, hope, wholeness, joy, and so much more in exchange for…our brokenness, our weakness, our anxiety, our sin. Meditating on this brings tears of awe to my eyes and such a love in the well of my being. It makes me stop and really think about the ‘fear of the …

An Unexpected Purpose & a Prepared Blessing by Pastor Robert House

*This Article is written by Pastor Robert House. A short bio of the author will be at the end of the article.  My purpose in writing this is to tell my own truth and not to talk bad about anyone else or their experience as a pastor, stepfather, husband and even simply as a Christian but just to write out my own thoughts on what I have experienced so far in this 10-month journey of change. I have known my wife since I was in the 6th grade but we were never close because I was older but her family was active in the church as I was. Everyone knew me because I was one of the few blacks in the school. My wife also played sports with one of my close friends so I knew her through that association. Around September of 2017, she messaged me and told me how much I meant to her during that time since she grew up in a rough situation and we begin talking every day. On November …

The Rooted & Grounded: Faith For Creatives

14 For this reason I kneel before the Father 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named. 16 I pray that he may grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with power in your inner being through his Spirit, 17 and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love, 19 and to know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us— 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. ~EPHESIANS 3:14-21 CSB Paul’s prayer for the Body of Christ to be rooted and grounded in the love our Savior has for us is so powerful. Many times we make light of, not only the Grace of God but His …

Going with the Flow

I share this article from January 15, 2014. The glory and truths found within are still relevant today. I pray you are blessed by them. Today was a gorgeous day, not just because the climate was balmy and the sun was shining without a single cloud in the sky, but also because of the things that I got to do and didn’t get to do. I literary woke up this morning to the sound of birds singing. First I thought, “Lil, birds it is January. You must be confused.” But then a thought accord, they were not confused. They knew exactly what time of the year it was but because our Beloved Savior, Christ Jesus had been so gracious and given them such a gorgeous day, they were taking advantage of it. “It was like playing in a preview of what is to come.” These little birds were rejoicing in the moment, going with the flow and just getting to hear their delight made me smile. Their delight was contagious. As I write this, my …
