Fear of Change: Learning to Grow

Your palms sweat, and grip tightly to the plastic as if it is the only lifeline you have, the only thing that will keep you from drowning. But you have to make a decision. You have to decide. Change is imminent. There is no turning back. You feel the slickness of your hands pulling away from the surface and you draw it closer to your face, your eyes ever widening. Your focus doesn’t improve. Instead, it becomes worse, blurred, jumbled, more lost in the sea of confusion as you stare anxiously, fearfully at…your menu. “…fill up of the satisfying familiar and lose nothing in the process except for a new experience.” Isn’t it just like that? Okay, maybe not as intense, but there is still that pressure when you go to your favorite restaurant, one that you have visited for years. And somehow, no matter how many times you have gone you have faithfully ordered the same meal, too afraid to branch out and try something new. We tend to hold on to the familiar …

Dreaming & Sowing Seeds

“Dreaming is not wasting time, it’s peeking into your future ahead of time.”   In all truth, even though I polished up the words to make them into a quote, they are actually the result of a conversation I was having with the Lord Jesus. I have said it a bazillion times, that I am a stickler for time. I like to make the best use of every second of every day…its akin to squeezing blood from a turnip the way I can be when it comes to time management. “Dreaming is sowing seed.” This is not always a good thing, although I still stand on the fact that being wasteful of time is not good either. Once before, several years ago, also while having a conversation with God, the topic then being money, He asked me, “What happens to a fist full of sand when you squeeze it as tightly as you can?” My response, “The tighter you squeeze the faster it seems to slip away from you.” His response, “That is exactly what happens …

It All Begins with a Dream

*Article updated from August 25, 2014 “I sleep to dream, I dream to be inspired, and through inspiration, I live. Jesus  is my Inspiration.” ~Candice Coates I came up with that little ditty when I was sixteen or seventeen years old.  It was then that I created the image of myself resting and dreaming yet holding onto the Spirit of Peace.  For years I have been gleaning inspiration from the dreams that I live in each time I lay my head on my pillow at night. But even though I understand the importance of dreaming, I often encounter people who have no concept of dreaming at all. Not only do they shun the concept or idea of dreaming one’s way into a tailor-made future but they scoff at the idea of dreams born out of rest. “…dreaming is the pinnacle of imagination and thus the root of creativity.” What many fail to realize in their efforts to remain ‘practical’ is that dreaming is the pinnacle of imagination and thus the root of creativity. Authentic creativity …

Going with the Flow

I share this article from January 15, 2014. The glory and truths found within are still relevant today. I pray you are blessed by them. Today was a gorgeous day, not just because the climate was balmy and the sun was shining without a single cloud in the sky, but also because of the things that I got to do and didn’t get to do. I literary woke up this morning to the sound of birds singing. First I thought, “Lil, birds it is January. You must be confused.” But then a thought accord, they were not confused. They knew exactly what time of the year it was but because our Beloved Savior, Christ Jesus had been so gracious and given them such a gorgeous day, they were taking advantage of it. “It was like playing in a preview of what is to come.” These little birds were rejoicing in the moment, going with the flow and just getting to hear their delight made me smile. Their delight was contagious. As I write this, my …
