Think on These Things: The Art of A Focused Mind

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” ~PHILIPPIANS 4:8

To think on things that are ‘good’ in the face of those things that seem to weigh our minds down seems like a call to ignore reality. If not this, many of us struggle to figure out what exactly to think on, defaulting to just, “Jesus is Good.”

Now, there is nothing wrong with that thought, because it is absolutely the truth, and we oftentimes, especially in the midst of trials, need to remind ourselves, but I believe that there is a deeper meaning to it all, both the good things and Christ being the Best Thing!

In the face of hardship and tragedy, we are to think on the Word and Promises of God that He has already spoken over our circumstances.

If you are facing sickness, think on ISAIAH 53 and I PETER 2:24. If you are facing financial strain, think on PSALM 23 and MATTHEW 6:25-33. Are you struggling with the feeling of sadness? Think on Christ’s promise that He has given you His own personal shalom peace (JOHN 14:26-27).

Find words of promise that stand victorious against what you are facing.

Speaking the words of promise that combat your concern, meditating on them in the face of your trials causes your faith to increase. It causes angels to move and His promises to manifest in our lives (PSALM 103:20).

  1. He loves you: JEREMIAH 31:3
  2. He is able: EPHESIANS 3:20
  3. He is willing: MATTHEW 8:3
  4. It is Finished!: JOHN 19:28-30, REVELATION 21:6-7

  1. This is so important! It’s so easy to for anxious thoughts to captivate our minds…thank you for godly reminder. Takes discipline, but I’m going to “think on these things”
    Press on dear sister! 🌹

    1. I am so glad that it blessed you and grateful that you let me know. You are right in that it does take discipline. We do have to renew our minds daily and focus on Him ❤
