The Wisdom of Pursuit: Pursuit of Passion Pt 3

*Revised from the “Postures” Series from July 2016

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.” ~JAMES 1:5-6

Our passions are as vast as the sand of the sea. Even so, the way in which we are to pursue those passions are equally as vast and require wisdom, the wisdom of God if we are truly to hit our marks and be successful in a way that not only pleases God but allows us to be blessed and be a blessing to others.

The Word of God tells us in that if any of us lack wisdom we should as God who gives unto us abundantly.

To approach and pray to Savior in Faith and Wisdom is to approach Him with focused confidence in Who He is and who we are in Him as well as confident trust in what He says in His Word.

It is to pray, despite our tremblings because of the winds and waves of our lives, with the audacious Power and Authority, He has given unto us through His Word and finished work.

As we pursue the passion of our hearts, be it a new job, a new level of faith, a new relational status, we need wisdom! And we need the confidence that we are hearing from Him by faith.

To pray and pursue with divine wisdom it is to pray, looking at our circumstances and mountains through the divine lens of scripture and trusting faithfulness in Him and our place in Him.

Praying this way sounds something like this:

“Father I confess that my heart is shaken by what is before me, but I thank You that your Word says…and I stand in agreement with your Word. I thank You that no matter how it feels or looks You are with me in the midst…I thank you that you give me Your Wisdom. Now in the Name above every Name, Christ Jesus, I rebuke the winds and waves…I ask that You…And I give You thanks because You are faithful. And I know You hear me.”

That is a prayer of power and authority guided by faith and wisdom. That is a pray that did not deny circumstances or issues but denied their right to operate in your life. That is a prayer of a child seated confidently in their Father’s arms, assured of their position in Him and His love for them. A prayer that recognizes that He is in charge and leading through our submission to His plan and purpose.

The perfect example of what this looks like is found in PHILIPPIANS 4:4-9:

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you”

Anxiety, the sister of fear, is only removed when faith steps in.

To have faith, according to HEBREWS 11:1, is this: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

To pray in our pursuits of passion, guided by faith and wisdom is to pray guided by hope, again, because you are confident in Him and His promises, which are yes and amen to the glory of God. (II CORINTHIANS 1:20)

That confidence comes from knowing who you are in Him and that you are greatly loved by Him and that He keeps you. (JOHN 17:23EPHESIANS 2:4-7)

To pray in Faith and Wisdom is to pray with confidence in His Word and what His Word says and to pray, knowing what His Word says about you in Him.

“…but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the POWER of God and the WISDOM of God.”   ~I COR. 1:24

When we pray guided by Faith and Wisdom we pray completely clothed in the knowledge and perfection of Christ Jesus and His finished work. We pray knowing that we have the RIGHT to enter the Father’s presence, we are BECKONED into His presence, and because we know He is for us and indwelling us we know that we are praying from a position of Power and Authority.

We don’t have to beg. We only have to rest and give thanks, and stand in agreement with what He has already said about our lives and circumstances. And that is we are blessed and IT IS FINISHED!

No matter what you are pursuing, allow your pursuit to be aligned with a solid prayer posture, founded in Faith in His Word and direction, and the Wisdom to guide you every step of the way!
