“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago…I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” ~JEREMIAH 1:5 NLT, EPHESIANS 2:10 NLT
The Lord sanctified and appointed you to the call and purpose, vision, dream already inside you.
To be sanctified is to be set apart for a specific purpose. His Word ensures us that He is our Shepherd and that we lack nothing. This means that you have all you need to succeed and become all that He has called you to (Psalm 23). (See Creatively Established)
Consider the work of a potter (Jeremiah 18:1-5). When he takes a lump of clay, he has already decided what he is going to create.
Let’s imagine that this potter has decided to make a mug to drink coffee from. When he puts his hands to the clay to fashion the mug, he fashions it to accomplish that purpose without fail. He makes sure that the walls of the vessel are thick enough to hold in the fluid and heat, but light enough so that the mug is not too heavy.
He makes certain that the handle fits nicely in his hands for ease of lifting. Then after firing and painting it to be pleasing to the eye, he puts it in a set apart place so that when he is ready to drink his coffee in the morning it is just in reach.
This is exactly the work that Christ has already done and is doing in us. You may be thinking, “Well, Candice, what about what Philippians 1:6 says? That, “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;” Doesn’t that mean we are still in need of some things?
I’m glad you brought that up! Just like the lump of clay that was without form or shape before the potter put it on the potter’s wheel was already a coffee mug in the making, so too are you and I, already what Christ has purposed for us even before He places us on His wheel and forms us into His intended design.
And what confidence and rest we can take in knowing that He will perfect us for His very purpose and call!
Although we mirror clay, we are also like a seed, ever-growing and ever transitioning from one expression and purpose of His glory to another (II Corinthians 3:18). All an acorn needs to become an oak is already inside of it, before it falls to the ground before it is submerged into darkness before it is kissed by water and breaks forth from its shell.
Like the clay needs firing to become the coffee mug, like the acorn needs the right soil, pressure, water, darkness, and light, not to mention time to grow and thrive to bring out the glory and grace that it was already sanctified with, so too do we need the right circumstances to be transformed for our success and purpose.
Our struggles and trials are these same elements that draw out our glory and grace to be strengthened for the predestined success and call that Christ has put within us. In all circumstances then, we are victorious, knowing all things are working for our good to prepare us for a good work!
Be confident as He works on you. You are truly a success in His hands!
