Keeping Calm: What It Means to Have Peace in Our Storms

“Keep calm and carry on.” How many times have you read that saying, seen it on a clever poster, or even seen it twisted just a bit to encourage you to do something like eat more donuts? Probably beyond a hundred times. This catchy phrase has become associated with all things posh and hip, and even fun, but do you know where it originated?

Keep CalmThe “Keep Calm” phrase was birthed in 1939 UK right on the cuffs of WWII. The British government, in an attempt to assure its citizens that despite the sound of fighter planes over head, thunderous vibration of bombs, and the ominous scent of war slowly beginning to cloud the air, that all was well. The United Kingdom would preserve the lives of their citizens.

The “Keep Calm and Carry On” posters where posted out in the open for all to see as they went about their daily lives. Can you image hearing a fighter plane over head, the vibration of dropped bombs tickling the soles of your feet, you, taking off in a frantic run for cover only to run face to face with that sign, “Keep Calm, and Carry On.”

Psalm 91:4“He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.”

I wonder if when faced with these words, did a person take the time to look around, only to find that even though they heard the sound of war, there was no evidence of it on the ground, because they were being protected. Did they heed the words and keep calm whilst carrying on with their day, trusting that they were being covered and protected even though the couldn’t see their “help” protectively watching over them?

2 Thessalonians 3:3 “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.”

The assurance offered by the Government is NOTHING compared to the assurance we, as Children of God, called by the Name of the Messiah King Yeshua Jesus have.

Through faith in Him, we are given a greater assurance to truly, Keep calm and carry on, when the enemy (the defeated foe, Colossians 2:13-15) is attacking and chaos is whirling all around us. This is FAITH! This is TRUST! This is our BLESSED ASSURANCE.

Psalm 23:4 says:

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23

God is with us in all of our troubles, even when we cannot see Him (Isaiah 63:9), and His word says that He is faithful to deliver us from them all (Psalm 34:19-20)…keep calm and carry on.

Our Father, God and King has given us His angels, to bare us up and keep us, lest we come to harm. (Psalm 91)

There are so many things that the enemy throws at us day by day, things we never know even happen because our Heavenly Father who neither slumbers nor sleeps, guards and watches over us. He is faithful to preserve His children and bring us to safety under His protective wings.

2 Timothy 4:18 “And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!”

So if you are experiencing any trouble in your life right now, straighten your shoulders, put your eyes on the King and keep calm and carry on. Though your enemy roars around you and the sound of his clamoring may shake your heart, rebuke the fear in Yeshua Jesus’ Name, rebuke the devil and keep calm and carry on.

Always remember that peace is not the absence of chaos but trusting in the protective loving care of your God and Father in the midst of the chaos.

No matter what is going on, Yeshua Jesus has you covered, and He has the situation in His hands. Keep Calm and Carry On.
