So since my announcement last week involving my venture to do a 30 blog novel (click here for more info) I have spent a good amount of time figuring out how to balance the other things in my life to fit around this endeavor. What does Monday have to do with any of this? Well, I have decided that Monday will be my new “announcement” day, should life not happen, as I am sure it will, and I end up blogging my announcement on a different day…kinda like what is happening now.
WHAT IS IT THAT I HAVE COME TO DECIDE? Well this all has to do not only with the reality of balancing time, but also the attempt to establish a viable “brand.” Brands require a level of order and this is what I am seeking to establish. To keep this short and sweet, let me present a schedule: ( Freewrites and Drawings will be done everyday if possible.)
Sunday: Depending on the family happenings on the day, I will have a random post here or there.
Monday: Musings-I will share with you my goals for the coming week as well as share revelations that I have happened upon.
Tuesday: Every other Tuesday there will be a NEW WRITING PROMPT. On the rotating Tuesdays, I will post my completed exercise.
Wednesday: Random Posting…kinda like Sunday
Thursday: Every other Thursday there will be a NEW WRITING EXERCISE. Again, these are different from “prompts.” Click here to find out how they differ. On the rotating Thursdays I will post my results.
Friday: Focusing on Freewrites and 20 min Drawing Exercises, even though I intend to do these throughout the week. Also share a Moment of Clarity, should I happen upon one during the week.
Saturday: We all need a day of rest. This day is all about worship, repose, and naps for me. 😉
Due to the fact I have a writing goal of 3,000 viable words per day for the month of June, in order to finish my blog novel, I may not be able to adhere so closely to the Freewrites for that month, as time is precious. But overall, the above schedule is THE go-t- guide for this blog…for the time being that is.
Brand building is a game of trial and error.
OTHER CHANGES: Although I still have a link to Calligraphy and Lettering within my menu, it is likely that this will not be a skill that I will be honing in the coming months. I am a firm believer that all things happen according to times and seasons, and as it stands, this is not the time or season for me to work on lettering.
These changes not only have to do with the blog but with other aspects of my life. I have had to make the same kind of cuts with my business since I am a one man shop. I can’t do it all even though part of me would like to. And even if I do do it all, ALL of it ends up being less quality than it could have been.
ON THE BLOG NOVEL: Ascension Graveyard. I am super excited about writing this story starting June 1st, so excited that I have to keep myself from starting it ahead of time. I believe in honor so I am holding back my hands. The characters are starting to reveal themselves slowly, as if waking up from a good nights rest, and they are all ready to get to work.
I will admit that the idea of being this vulnerable and posting an entire novel straight out of my head is NERVE RACKING! But as I shared with someone else, it is character building. As you read, do keep in mind that the novel is indeed the “rough draft” and will undergo serious editing and revision once the story is finished being told. In which case I will make the revised, Polished version, available as an Amazon ebook download.
What I am allowing myself to do (as I have done with the other 2 30 day novels I wrote) is collect data, write down character names, personality traits etc. I still have a bit of research to do for some ideas that I have for the story, but I will hold back from spoilers.
Alright, that is it for now. Do enjoy this day and be sure to create something wonderful!
