Trying New Things and Strengthening Wings

Grape Gorgonzola and Rosemary Pizza

Grape Gorgonzola and Rosemary Pizza from Pies & Pints

When it comes to trying new foods, I am never one to turn my nose up. I will admit that there are several foods that I do not eat for personal convictions but if someone is not aware of my convictions and makes a dish utilizing any of these things, I will definitely give it a try. Why? Food is the one language that every person on this planet speaks, and speaks fluently. Food is one of the few things in this world that anyone, no matter what their walk in life is, can offer to someone completely different from them and the message of graciousness is received.

On February the 14th a friend and I went to Pies and Pints and enjoyed pizza and conversation. Since the menu offered some pretty different selections, we decided to indulged. The pizza I enjoyed the most was the Grape, Gorgonzola and Rosemary Pizza. Now for traditional pie eaters, this pizza just sounds all wrong, but I have to say it was AMAZING! The grapes pared with the cheese and the rosemary, garlic and heat proved to be fantastic. It reminds me of that NEO song. And I quote

“I’m a movement by myself, but I’m a force when we’re together…you make me better.”

Who doesn’t like grapes? Who doesn’t like cheese? Who doesn’t like pizza? Put these three “movements” together and you get a force of flavorful deliciousness that keeps you wanting more.

So what does this pizza have to do with art, and writing, and the journey of the soul and spirit? Glad you asked. It has EVERYTHING to do with all of them. It is about trying new things, things that don’t necessarily look like they should go together, and discovering that their pairing is far more incredible than you could have imagined.

Art: I am the kind of artist (person) who likes control. I have a need for uniformity, hard edges or soft edges. I need things to be clear and crisp. This makes sense to me. Recently with doing the illustration called “stranger pigs have happened” I discovered that the freedom of movement with the strokes, the truly allowing my art to speak for itself made my inner man glow. It was refreshing. That style was not something that I would have ever thought to try before, but I am so glad that I did. Seeds have been planted for me to take the study even further, focusing on themes that I care about. ( I will blog about that later. I have discovered some new things as of late!)

Writing: I have to say with my writing, I am very liberal in the things that I will try. I have to say that I treat my writing like my food. I will try just about anything once.

Journey of Soul and Spirit: This is where things can get tricky. Lately I find myself saying to the Lord “Yeshua, You want me to do WHAT?!” Generally He is only asking me to extend  and stretch my faith further than I have been. And lets be honest, anytime our faith grows WE are better for it. When we try new things in our faith walk, be it making peace with someone who is always causing conflict, making a committed offering when it seems like you are living fist to mouth as it is, you will find that you grow, you are blessed, and most importantly you are blessed to know Him in a more intimate way. You can step back and say “Wow, Yeshua. You love me like that?” (I have had many of these moments but they only come, and the truth of them is only revealed when I step out into something new.)

So now with the strengthening of wings part of things. The more I have stretched the more I would like to do. This is all well and good but just because I have grown more desire to create a more extensive gambit of things does not mean that 24 hours has stretched into 30. Nope! I am pretty certain I still only have 24 hours in a day and a set amount of quarters in a hour to be used.  That being said I am creating a different recipe with the time I have to create each day. I would like to remain organic in the times that I sit down to share but I have to be a good steward if I am to execute the many tasks at hand. So I am trying to use…wait for it…a PLANNER!

I have not used a daily planner since high school and that was a very looong time ago. That being said I am making it a point to post blogs 3 days out of the week. Being that this is my recipe and recipes are more suggestions than rules I may blog more than that. But I am setting aside time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to show you all my most recent sketches and projects,  my freewriting and short stories (I have not forgotten about the one still flapping in the wind), and anything else that I feel must go into this Soup.

So there it all is. I am trying some new things, new styles, new ideas, and a new recipe. I hope you all like it…I hope I like it. If in the end its not so grand its okay. I will still be able to say that I at least tried it.
